9 WEEKS TEST EXEMPTION POLICY, GRADES 9-12

This policy is based on the generally accepted premise that regular school attendance is

an essential element of school success. Linking desirable attendance with 9 weeks test

exemption from a portion of the student’s course load each term serves as an attendance

incentive. This policy will exempt students from some courses while requiring them to

take the 9 weeks test in specified core courses each term. Policy Regulations are

referenced under IKFF-R.

Regulations for 9 Weeks Test Equivalency/Exemption Policy for Wise County Schools are stated

below:

1. All students in grades 9 through 12 enrolled in a SOL end-of-course tested who score 400 or

greater on a SOL end-of-course tested subject will be eligible to substitute a score from the

SOL conversion chart in lieu of a course exam. Students will be allowed to take

examinations for the purpose of attempting to improve their final grades. In such cases, the

9 weeks test may not lower the final grade.

The SOL end-of-course tested subjects are:

English 11 (EOC only) World Geography

Algebra I Earth Science World History to 1000 AD

Algebra II Biology I World History from 1000 to Present

Geometry Chemistry I United States History

NOTE: In the event that a score for a SOL end-of-course tested subject is not received

within 48 hours before the scheduled test, students will be required to take 9 weeks test in the SOL end-of-course tested subject.

2. The grade and attendance requirements:
