Ten of our students each year have been selected to receive a $4,000 freshman scholarship and a $2,000 sophomore scholarship to help them attend college.

The ECMC (Educational Credit Management Corporation) Group Foundation has pledged $600,000 in scholarships to serve Virginia public high school students, and Coeburn High School is fortunate to have been selected as one of ten schools whose students will be recipients of a portion of those scholarships.  According to a release by the foundation, the ECMC Scholars Program "seeks to increase participation in postsecondary education by economically or otherwise disadvantaged students and to challenge those students to better prepare for postsecondary education during their junior and senior years of high school.  One hundred students chosen from ten schools throughout Virginia will be designated as ECMC Scholars, each eligible to earn $6,000 in scholarships for postsecondary education."

The goal of the ECMC Scholars Program is "to seek opportunities to help currently underserved or disadvantaged student populations further their educational goals...[and to target] students with potential whose abilities may not be reflected in grades and test scores."
