Library

Students at Coeburn Primary have a modern media center fully equipped with over 13,000 books, computers, SmartBoard, and various other resources.  Students are taught how to find information in the library.  In addition, Mrs. Lester and her assistant help students with SOL preparation.

Music

A modern music center is available that allows students to sing and play various musical instruments. Mrs. Wilson also directs all of our school's theatre productions.

Title I

Coeburn Primary School offers a school-wide Title I program.  The program is for Grades K-3 and focuses on improving skills in the Virginia Standards of Learning.  Title I resource teacher, Chryl Ringley,   provides small-group instruction with emphasis placed on strengthening reading skills in Grades K-2.  Two Title I instructional assistants, , provide instruction as needed in Grades K-3.

, a Title I Specialty Reading Resource Teacher, works with students in small groups and is available to provide staff development on specific topics.

Also provided through the Title I program is a full-time Family Involvement Coordinator, Elizabeth Counts .  She operates a Family Resource Center, provides workshops and training for parents, offers support group activities as well as family fun nights and reading nights.

Special Education

The Special Education Department at Coeburn Primary School consists of  four Special Education teachers, one Speech Therapist, as well as several Special Education Assistants.  They work with students who have a variety of disabilities in collaborative and special education classrooms.  Their goal is to have each student be a productive contributor in the classroom and  to be engaged in learning in the classroom setting and in the school environment.
