Wise County is pleased to have five Reading Resource teachers working in each of the elementary schools. Student assessments and screenings for the PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Program) is under the direction of Reading Resource Teachers. Reading Resource Teachers help classroom teachers implement the reading program and are a resource for new materials and ideas. They provide direct instruction to students on a daily basis. Reading Resource Teachers also provide evaluations of students, including curriculum monitoring, student diagnosis, and monitoring teacher and school effectiveness. Assessment results are shared with classroom teachers and improvement strategies and plans are developed. Staff development and workshops in all areas of language arts are also available to administrators, faculty, and parents. |
