In the event of a winter storm that prevents
safe travel on our secondary roadways, the Board of
Education has approved a plan to institute snow routes in
areas of Wise County that have traditionally been the source
of most school cancellations when we experience inclement
weather. |
|
|
|
All routes identified as snow
routes can be utilized on a given day, or only a route or
routes that have been affected by a snowstorm may be
utilized. |
|
|
|
When snow routes are used,
the following
announcement will be made by either the local radio
and television stations, logging on to the Wise County
Public Schools' Website, Channel 10, or an Alertnow message
from the school system. |
|
|
Wise County Schools will
operate on a two (2) hour delay; all snow routes will be
utilized |

In developing the snow
routes, every bus route was reviewed in all attendance
areas. The following guidelines were developed.
- Parents will need to make the
individual decision on whether or not the roads are safe
enough to travel to the assigned pick-up point.
Safety is the primary concern.
- Regular routes and stops will be used
on all routes except for those identified as as snow
route stops. All students on those stops will be
required to meet at the identified bus stops.
- Students who live on one of the
listed roads may go to the home of a friend or neighbor
on the same route and ride on the bus to school.
- The students should be prepared to
return to that residence at the end of the day, unless
parents make other arrangements to pick them up at the
school.
- Students who do not attend on days in
which snow routes are used will be responsible for
making up all work missed.
