Elementary Education
I am originally from Bassett, Virginia and am a 1973
graduate of John D. Bassett High School. I have had
graduate courses from UVA and Virginia Tech in
Administration and Supervision which lead to an
endorsement in Administration and Supervision. I have
also had coursework in Counseling and Guidance.
I began my career in Wise County in 1977 as a fifth
grade teacher at L.F. Addington Middle School. In 1979,
I moved to sixth grade where I taught for 12 years.
Since then, I have served as assistant principal at
Coeburn Middle and L.F. Addington; principal at J.W.
Adams Combined School, L.F. Addington Middle and now St.
Paul Elementary.
I currently live in the Hurricane section of Wise
with my wife of 33 years, Gail Carico Bryant, a native
of Pound. Gail is the school nurse at Wise County
Alternative Education Center. My daughter, Joy Rachel,
is 23 and teaches Spanish at Haysi High School. We
attend Zion Family Ministries in Wise where I serve as
greeter and usher. We have been foster parents for the
Wise County Department of Social Services since the mid
80s. I currently serve on the Wise County Social
Services Board.
My hobbies include reading, especially biographies,
mysteries and Christian related materials. I enjoy
music with my favorites being gospel, some older country
and bluegrass. I also enjoy UVA-Wise football and
spontaneous trips to the Pigeon Forge area.
I know St. Paul is a small, close-knit community that
puts a high value on education and I look forward to
working with the stakeholders to continue the standard
of excellence as promoted through leaders like Jim
Short, Blake Whitenack and others that have worked at
St. Paul. Although most of my educational background
has been in the middle school area, I have a heart for
the younger grades as well and enjoy getting to know
them and participating in their educational activities.
St. Paul has a great elementary school with a fine staff
and students and I intend to continue the execution of
high standards and expectations.
Sincerely,
James Bryant |
