Course Description

Prerequisites: Grade 11 or 12, and Grade 10 if there are available openings. Prospective student should have good self-discipline and a desire to work with their hands. Good math and reading skills and attendance are essential.

Course Description: Students learn to repair the body and fenders of automobiles. Instruction in body preparation for painting and finishing is included. The Auto Body Technology is divided between classroom theory and hands on lab work, thus daily attendance is necessary.

Course Content and Objectives: The objective of the Auto Body Technology program is to prepare students for entry-level employment in the Auto Body industry or post-secondary education in the subject.

Five major aspects of the industry are covered including:
Painting and Refinishing
Structural analysis and repair
Non-structural analysis and repair.
Mechanical Systems
Plastics and Adhesives.
 

Certification

This course may assist the student in preparing for the following certification examinations, national assessments, or licensure examinations approved by the Virginia Board of Education:
  • Collision Repair, National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI)
  • Collision Repair and Refinishing Technician (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF))
  • Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology, National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI)
  • Refinishing Technology Assessment, National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI)
