Certification

 

Course Description

Prerequisites: Grade Level 10 or 11.

Course Description: Students learn to make minor repairs, tune engines, and practice routine maintenance procedures. The study of electrical systems and components of the cooling system is included. Certifications and licenses available upon successfully completion of Automotive Service sequence are Automotive Technician (ASE) and/or Parts Specialist Automobile or Medium/Heavy Truck (ASE).

Course Content and Objectives: The objective of the Auto-Service program is to prepare students for entry-level employment in the auto service industry.

 

Certification

This course may assist the student in preparing for the following certification examinations, national assessments, or licensure examinations approved by the Virginia Board of Education:

  • Automotive Technician Examination administered by National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Certification of skill in automobile service and repair.  Examination is considered a “pathway” examination to full ASE certification in a specialty area upon completion of required work experience.
  • Automotive Youth Education Systems (AYES) Exit Examinations. Certification of skill in automotive service and repair. Examinations are considered “pathway” examinations potentially leading to ASE industry certification.
  • National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) End of Program Test Series Examinations (Pass any two NATEF, End of Program Test Series, exams)
  • Parts Specialist (ASE)—(Pass any one exam from Parts Specialist Test Series)
