Cosmetology
Cosmetology is a competency based program that is
provided through a sequential set of learning steps that
address specific tasks necessary for state board
preparation, graduation, and skills necessary for an
entry level job in the beauty industry. Subject areas
include hair styling, hair shaping, hair coloring,
texture services, scalp and hair conditioning, skin
care, makeup application, manicuring, pedicuring, and
artificial nails
Subject matter will be presented by lecture and
demonstration. The use of field trips, guest speakers,
projects, computer programs, activities, and related
teaching methods will be used in the delivery of the
material for this program.
Students enrolled in Cosmetology will be eligible to
take the VA State Board of Cosmetology Exam after
satisfactorily completing four consecutive semesters in
our cosmetology program, which meet the standards set by
the Virginia State Board of Cosmetology. Students will
adhere to the attendance policies set by the Wise County
Schools.
This course may assist the student in
preparing for the following
certification examinations, national
assessments, or licensure examinations
approved by the Virginia Board of
Education:
- Cosmetology (Virginia Board of
Barbers and Cosmetology, Department
of Professions & Occupational
Regulations)
- Cosmetology (National
Occupational Competency Testing
Institute)
