Course Description

Prerequisites: Grades 11 and 12, grade 10 if space is available. Students are required to conduct themselves in a mature and professional manner at all times. Good physical condition is a must due to the nature of the welding profession with the temperature levels and lifting requirements. Basic math skills are a necessity to utilize the blueprints and layout work.

Course Description: Welding is a two year program for students at the Career Technical Center. Students will receive a certificate of training upon completion of the program. Students can also certify with the “National Center for Construction Education and Research” through the Wheels of Learning program. Wheels of Learning curriculum allow students to register their welding skills on the national level for future employment in the construction trade.

Training will also be given in the areas of MIG and TIG welding and Plasma cutting techniques
 

Certification

This course may assist the student in preparing for the following certification examinations, national assessments, or licensure examinations approved by the Virginia Board of Education:
  • Core, Introductory Craft Skills, National Construction Career Test (NCCER)
  • SENSE (American Welding Society)
  • Welding (NOCTI)
